The Kiso River is a river in Japan which flows through the central part of the country (Nagano, Gifu, Aichi and Mie) before emptying into Ise Bay. It is surrounded by over 15 dams and 33 power plants which have served as the foundation of Japanese modernization. In River, a local-born landscape photographer, Kazutoshi Yoshimura, fully captures the power and glory that the Kiso River plays in its role in modern Japan, in contrast to the beauty of majestic nature of Kiso Valley and waterstream of the Kiso River.
The first dam of the Kiso River launched in 1911, seven power plants constructed by the King of Electricity in Japan, an old generator which is still active, and Francis water turbines are all intriguing subjects. Dams with tailwater in the glow of the sunset, revealed sites of the power plants, and pylons lined up in a row are unique and unusual sights.
