Overview
A stunning full-colour art book showcasing intricate miniature sculptures of buildings lost to time, from Halifax's iconic Vintage Row to rural homes, barns, and boats off the beaten path.
John Eaton has always been fascinated by abandoned places and the stories that live within spaces that were once vibrant, cherished, and full of life. He regularly takes Sunday drives all over the Maritimes seeking shipwrecks, ghost towns, vacant homes, and long-forgotten places deep in the woods.
But many of the familiar sights have begun to disappear. Once-beautiful homes, boats, and outbuildings have fallen to rot as families have moved away. In search of a way to capture these places and preserve their stories, Eaton was inspired to recreate these crumbling structures in miniature—and in exquisite detail—from cereal boxes and items bound for recycling.
Broken Windows: Abandoned Nova Scotia in Miniature showcases ten of Eaton's most iconic sculptures and brings them to life through more than ninety colour photographs of both the original sites and his astounding reproductions. Eaton's candid descriptions of what drew him to the locations as well as how his sculptures came together add to the sense of discovery and wonder in these pages.
