In this impressive study, professor Krzysztof Sliwa built the edification of what is surely the definite critical biography of the author of The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha. Drawing on documents that belonged to Miguel de Cervantes and a vast number of texts that mention him, both contemporary to him and subsequent, Sliwa offers a possibility to get closer than ever to the most universal of our writers.
The present work frames the circumstances and the life of Cervantes in four different sections that nevertheless make up a whole. The first part focuses on his family roots and his ancestors; the second part on his close family, his parents, and brothers; the third on his actual life, and the fourth and final part on his wife’s family, Catalina Palacios Salazar y Vozmediano’s relatives. As an indivisible whole, this volume offers a vivid portrait of a time and a man that redefined literature forever.
