Overview
The GRASSI Museum’s fourth Vessel / Sculpture volume again presents modern ceramics exploring the space between vessel and sculpture, capturing the creative interplay of function, form, and spacial presence.
Since 2008 the GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts Leipzig has published three catalogues titled Vessel / Sculpture, which not only reflect a selection of its ceramic collection holdings but have also since become definitive books on the subject. New outstanding acquisitions and donations have now given rise to a fourth volume. The selected works are impressive examples of modern studio ceramics, objects situated between purposeful vessel and autonomous sculpture. With a multifaceted wealth of forms and surfaces, the works enter into an aesthetic dialogue that explores the diverse possibilities of artistic production within this field. This volume is characterized by additional selected works on paper by ceramic artists, which document the range of artistic resources within their craft. The comprehensive artist biographies and illustrations of makers’ marks result in a well-founded reference work.
