Elisa Queijeiro builds bridges between Malinche’s tale, her legend, and Mexican reality. She lays bare the actual wound of the Conquest and the loss we keep dragging behind us: our chosen orphanhood, the fabrication we accept, and the damage we have inflicted upon ourselves by not embracing Malinche as the worthy indigenous mother she truly was.
Between assumptions and facts, Queijeiro shows us that Malinche’s voice was union and thread, not weapon nor blade. She bravely denounces the motives of those who called her “a paramour and a wuss”, “a tritor and a quisling”, looking into the reality of sexism and misogyny, the rotten roots of our society.
This book takes on a whole new dimension when Malintzin’s story is seen as a solid step towards healing a nation, wounded by violence against women and the fabrications placed over their shoulders.
