Three Years in Wuying

The Miao ethnic minority village of Wuying is located deep in the Miao Mountains on the border of Rongshui Miao Autonomous County in Liuzhou, Guangxi and Congjiang County in Guizhou. During the three years he spent there, Xinhua photojournalist Huang Xiaobang became deeply involved in the life and work of the village, including the fight against poverty. He published hundreds of photographs for the Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily Online, and other foreign mainstream media, documenting the local people’s quest to escape impoverishment from a subtle perspective. This book uses concrete, vivid stories and a lot of raw visual material to record the changes and constants that Wuying has experienced over the course of three years, from the establishment of the joint Party branch and the development of local industries to the preservation of ethnic cultural heritage, customs, and the natural environment.
