Overview
Considered one of England's great masters of portraiture and landscape, Thomas Gainsborough (1727–1788) painted, by royal invitation, portraits of King George III and his queen, Charlotte Sophia. A favorite painter of the British aristocracy, he became wealthy through commissions for portraits characterized by the noble and refined grace of the figures, by poetic charm, and by cool and fresh colors.
This lovely card collection includes reproductions in miniature of 24 of the artist's finest works, among them Lady Innes (ca. 1758–9), The Harvest Wagon (1767), The Linley Sisters (1772), A Rocky Coastal Scene (1781), The Three Eldest Princesses (1784), his famous The Blue Boy (ca. 1770) and eighteen others.
Ideal for sending brief messages to art-loving friends and relatives, these cards can also be framed, used as colorful bookmarks, or simply added to a personal collection.
