  • Overview

What happened on October 17th, 2003?
Two decades after the loss of her parents, Blaire Days is beginning the first day of the rest of her life. She’s only a few months away from earning her master’s degree as she begins an internship that all but promises her a spot as Greyvern Historical Library’s archival director after graduation. Ira Stone is a wrench in her plan, and a surprise addition to the internship program, but Blaire is determined to make the most of his help, even if it means having to hold his hand through the process. As the anniversary of her parents’ deaths approaches, Blaire has determined that she can no longer avoid the truth about what happened. She must finally look at the police report.
Disappointed by what she finds contained in the report, Blaire throws herself into her work. Ira tries to help or distract her, and eventually presents her with a document called the “Codes of the Stargazers.” 1945. Founded in Greyvern at the town’s peak after the war. Signed by some of the most powerful men of the time. Only one thing seems wildly out of place: the mention of extraterrestrials.
As Blaire grapples with learning of the potential existence of aliens—what the hell?—the discovery of a familiar name on both her parents’ police report and the Codes of the Stargazers makes her question everything. If her parents’ cause of death didn’t make sense before, it’s obscured even further when Blaire finds another police report listing a different cause of death, signed by a different officer a few days before the one her grandmother kept all these years.
Blaire and Ira follow the trail down a rabbit hole that leads them to the disappearances of many young women in the late forties, all of whom were somehow related to the men of the Stargazer Society. Resolved to find the truth and bring justice for her parents and the women hurt at the hands of the Stargazers, Blaire falls into an all-consuming obsession that threatens her life
