The FitzHughs (The Barons of the North 1321-1513)

The Barons of the North focuses on the lives of the successive barons FitzHugh and their family, as well as their political significance during the upheavals and political crises of the 14th to early 16th century in England, up until the moment the barony fell into abeyance with the death of George, 7th Baron FitzHugh. The 3rd Baron FitzHugh was a faithful royal servant and took part in the Hundred Years War, as well establishing many religious foundations. The political influence of his children was powerful, especially his daughter Elizabeth, a lady-in-waiting to Margaret of Anjou, his son Robert FitzHugh, who became Bishop of London, and William FitzHugh, 4th Baron Lovell. His son Henry would marry Alice Neville, sister of the Earl of Warwick, the 'Kingmaker'. Richard FitzHugh, 6th Baron Lovell, was influential in the Council of the North in the 1480s and maintained his position through the upheavals of the reigns of Edward IV and Richard III, as well as the early reign of Henry VII.
