Author Jeannie Dickson starts out by laying down a firm foundation with chapters on watercolor supplies, water control, brushwork basics, and watercolor techniques, including wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and different ways to create visual texture. There is a chapter on color theory and color mixing, then four chapters of botanical tutorials, organized by their function in a composition, much like a florist would use them in a bouquet: greenery, focal flowers, accent flowers, and textural elements. Every tutorial includes the color palette and the specific brushes used, as well as detailed step-by-step photos and instructions that make it easy for you to follow along. Many of the tutorials also include templates, so no drawing required!
In the final chapter, Jeannie Dickson brings it all together, teaching you how weave the different florals together to compose your own botanical painting, with 10 projects featuring bouquets, wreaths, garden scenes, and more.
