Overview
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
A beautiful and invaluable treatise on friendship that reveals its full significance.
“Friends are the only asylum where we can take refuge in misery and in reversals of every kind.”
This volume contains some of the most accurate and beautiful reflections ever written on friendship. This precious source of happiness and consolation that binds people together is, in Aristotle's words, “one of the most pressing needs of life.”
Comprised of Books Eight and Nine of the Nicomachean Ethics, this treatise, both highly readable and rich in valuable counsel, proposes a considered theory of friendship. After laying out a classification of different kinds of friendship, Aristotle asserts emphatically that the most desirable and enduring is that which exists among virtuous people, “because they wish the good for one another”.
More than 2,300 years after it was written, the relevance and instructive value of this classic only seem to grow.
