Overview
Sitting Bull first went to battle at the age of 14. He grew to be widely respected for his bravery and insight, and became chief of the Lakota nation in his thirties. By the time he met General Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn, his courage was legendary. Though he soundly defeated Custer, public outrage at the defeat brought thousands of cavalrymen to the area, where it took four more years before the brave chief would surrender. He was forced onto a reservation where he was later killed when police attempted to arrest him.
