Overview
A murder mystery on the battlefield from comics legends Brian Azzarello and Joe Kubert, now back in print!
Can a soldier still be a cold-blooded killer on the battlefield?
That’s the question at the heart of Sgt. Rock: Between Hell & a Hard Place…a question that only Sgt. Rock and the men of Easy Company can answer.
November 1944. In and around the Hürtgen Forest, some of the most brutally intense combat of WWII has been under way. In the middle of this meat grinder, Sgt. Rock and the men of Easy Company—Ice Cream Soldier, Bulldozer, Wildman, Little Sure Shot and a batch of greenhorns sneak be- hind enemy lines. Their mission? To capture a group of German Intelligence officers, in the hopes of learning a way to break the stalemate in the forest. After a harrowing battle, they accomplish what they set out to do. Four SS officers are now Easy’s prisoners.
By daybreak the fighting is over and the enemy forces are nowhere to be found. But all the prisoners have been mercilessly butchered in the night. All but one. And somehow, he’s escaped.
So in the midst of war, where men are trained to kill other men without remorse, and with no commanding officer to defer to, Sgt. Rock finds himself hunting down a murderer. For the sake of his company’s future and his own moral code, Rock must uncover the truth no matter what the cost.
It won’t be easy. But welcome to Easy Company—where nothing is ever easy.
Part war story, part murder mystery, Eisner Award-winning writer Brian Azzarello and legendary artist Joe Kubert crafted a modern war story with all the flavor and resonance of Saving Private Ryan and HBO's Band of Brothers. Sgt. Rock: Between Hell & a Hard Place, an original graphic novel first published in 2003, now returns to print for the first time in years.
