Saints of Magic

Throughout history, certain individuals held renown for their power over the spirits, the forces of Nature, and their supernatural powers, through the practice of the arts of magic. Sometimes reviled as heretics or witches, these gifted individuals have often been marginalized or executed by the societies of their day, despite making profound contributions to mysticism, religion, science, philosophy and especially magic. Jesus Christ himself, known as a powerful healer in his day, developed his ministry in a time when miracles and wonder-working were common, and yet suspect, considering their threats to established religious order. Examining over fifty historical figures throughout time and place, 'Saints' of Magic is a modern hagiography of sorcerers, mystics, alchemists and magicians, featuring 33 original illustrations specially commissioned by esoteric artist Johnny Decker Miller. Including such diverse figures as Circe, Hermes Trismegistus, Faust, Hildegard of Bingen, Giordano Bruno, Al Hallaj, and Pascal Beverly Randolph, particular attention is given to the words or writings of each of these remarkable figures, allowing each to speak with his or her own voice.
