Von 1789 bis 1833 errichtet, diente die Paulskirche bis 1944 als evangelische Hauptkirche Frankfurts. In dem klassizistischen Rundbau tagten 1848/49 die Delegierten der Frankfurter Nationalversammlung, der ersten frei gewählten Volksvertretung. Der Band schildert mit reichhaltigem Bildmaterial die architekturhistorische Bedeutung und Geschichte dieses Nationaldenkmals bis in die heutige Zeit.
