  • Overview

Self-harm is a worrying and significant problem for young people. At least 1 in 10 adolescents engage in self-harm at least once in their lives. It is also an area that both parents and professionals find difficult to manage. It can often be a private and secretive action and offering a self-help book aims to access and help more young people. There are very few self-help books on the market for adolescents who self-harm and offering an evidence based, up to date book full of strategies is well needed. Another unique aspect to this self-help book is that it will be co-produced with young people who have experienced self-harm themselves, alongside parents/carers who have also been involved. An overview of the books currently on the market indicate there are no specific self-harm, self-help books that target the younger population as well as supporting parents/carers, specifically using a CBT approach and also drawing on third wave CBT strategies.
