  • Overview

    ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

1939. After its ruthless incursion into Polish territory, the German army soon spread to Bedzin, a small town located near the border with Czechoslovakia. Eventually the Nazis decided to confine Jews in a ghetto in the poorest part of the city, to enslave them as labor and then send them to concentration camps such as Auschwitz. Death and desolation were the outcome of many families, but there was one that achieved the extraordinary feat of surviving thanks to a woman...

For four years, Dora Rembiszewski saved her husband and her young daughter Mira: she devised escapes, found hiding places, got supplies, sent clandestine messages and, finally deported to Auschwitz – tattooed with the number 74733 – exchanged a diamond for a piece of bread, proving that a mother's love always finds the most amazing ways to look after her own.

Memoirs of a Brave Woman, Don't Lose Hope collects the overwhelming testimony of a Holocaust survivor who, far from fueling the world's disenchantment, invites us to embrace faith in humanity again.
