Overview
A heartfelt tale about our connection to nature as a child's struggle starting at a new school mirrors a young golden eagle learning to fly
Dad takes Arden to explore the island that will soon be their new home, hoping to ease Arden's worries about starting again. They discover lots of exciting wildlife, including a pair of nesting golden eagles with a tiny chick!
Over the summer, Arden and Dad watch as the golden eagle chick grows bigger and stronger until, one day, it hops, flaps and makes its first flight from the eyrie. It doesn't make it very far, but Dad says it will keep trying. When it's time for school to start, will Arden be like the little eagle chick and learn to soar?
Catherine Ward, author of By the Beaver Pool, cleverly weaves golden eagle facts into the story to teach young readers about these majestic birds, while Esther Kent's evocative illustrations bring them to life against the backdrop of a charming Scottish island landscape.
