During pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, we go through changes beyond the purely physical. We not only change on the outside but also on the inside. We have been taught that we must avoid uncomfortable emotions, but how can we do that in such an intense life-changing process as motherhood?
We have created an image concerning the maternal experience in which we should only feel happiness, but the reality is quite different: feeling fear, sadness, guilt, and even frustration is also very common while nurturing a baby. You are not alone. Indeed, we don’t have enough space where we can talk about everything that happens to us, the ups and downs of motherhood, and the whole range of nuances in between.
This book is an honest journey through the emotions that accompany pregnancy like childbirth, postpartum, and, sometimes, mourning. It is born from my own experience as a mother of two girls and my sessions with many mothers in therapy.
