Overview
Mit den mächtigen Doppeltürmen unterschiedlicher Höhe charakterisiert die Martinikirche das Stadtbild Halberstadts. Im Inneren der Kirche ist der 1696 von Thiele Zimmermann geschaffene barocke Altar raumbeherrschend. Eine Besonderheit ist der für das mitteldeutsche Gebiet sehr ungewöhnliche bronzene Taufkessel aus dem Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts. Dieses älteste erhaltene Ausstattungsstück schmücken sehr detaillierte Reliefdarstellungen aus der Kindheit und Jugend Christi. Ein Gegengewicht zum Hochaltar bildet die barocke Orgel, die erst 1769 auf Befehl von Friedrich dem Großen von Gröningen in die Martinikirche gebracht wurde.
