Overview

The first biography of María Dolores Pradera, on the centenary of her birth.
A hundred years following the birth of the legendary Spanish singer, the first biography of María Dolores Pradera reveals the range of talent of an international star who also made her mark as an actress.
In an account as well-documented as it is captivating, Aguilar and Cabrerizo showcase the disarming sense of humor and tremendous force of will of a woman who dared to challenge the conventions of her time.
A beloved actress through the 1960s and a popular singer from the ‘70s on, María Dolores Pradera built a repertoire of at least 1000 songs, many of them as well known in Latin America as they are in Spain thanks to the thousands of concerts she gave on both sides of the Atlantic.
For this biography, the authors interviewed Pradera’s inner circle of friends (from Raphael to Serrat, from Bunbury to Quique González), colleagues and family. Most notable is the participation of her son, Fernando Fernán-Gómez, a main backer of the project. In addition to being the custodian of his mother’s vast archive, he supported her as a musician and technician for more than three decades and joined her on many of her tours.
