Loveless Marriage Among the Dinkas explores the practicality of the arranged and forced marriages within the Dinka communities of southern Sudan. Part I provides a brief history of the Dinka, Part II examines the genesis of marriages, and Part III explores the human rights issues that surround the arranged and forced marriages within the Dinka communities. Arranged marriages and forced marriages are still widely practiced throughout the world. Therefore, the narrative of this book illustrates the interplay among the laws, cultural norms, poverty, and state practices that pointed to the need for a more sophisticated and nuanced understanding of arranged and forced marriages in the Dinka community. The book explores in detail the facts of social forces within the Dinka communities that have influenced peoples' attitudes by looking at individuals' connections, children's relationships with their parents and extended family, and their personal beliefs regarding these concepts of marriage.
