Helen Hunt Jackson (October 18, 1830 – August 12, 1885), an American poet and writer who was a classmate of Emily Dickinson; the two corresponded for the rest of their lives, but few of their letters have survived. Ralph Waldo Emerson admired Helen Hunt Jackson’s poetry and used several of her poems in his public readings. He included five of them in his Parnassus: An Anthology of Poetry (1880). In 1879, Jackson published, under her pen name H.H., Letters From A Cat subtitle “by her mistress for the benefit of all cats and the amusement of little children.” In this lavish and faithful reprint from The Old Mill Press, Letters From A Cat maintains the full illustrations by Addie Ledyard.
