Overview
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
The Waves stands as one of the highest achievements in the English literary tradition.
This novel is woven from the thoughts of six friends: Bernard, Susan, Rhoda, Neville, Jinny, and Louis. Woolf constructs an imposing literary monument in which she attempts to capture the stream of consciousness of these characters. Framed by scenes that reproduce the landscape of a coastal village from dawn to dusk of a single day, the soliloquies—which record the obsessions, aspirations, and questions of the six individuals—unfold, presenting a succession of images and beautiful passages in a text of unmatched poetic craft.
