A radio host helps a Zapatista commando unit escape after they seize the station where he works for a few hours. A young writer interviews Fernando Vallejo in a bridal shop in the heart of Mexico City; the conversation, broadcast on national television, concludes with an incendiary proclamation by the interviewee, dressed in a wedding gown. A Mexican diplomat explores a life-size map of the city of Dublin, walks along the seabed, and spends a week locked inside Oscar Wilde’s house, transformed into a happy ghost of flesh and blood.
The director, the radio host, the young writer, and the Mexican diplomat are all the same person, Jordi Soler, who recounts in this book some of the most astonishing episodes he experienced between 1995 and 2014. The chronicles of The Weapons of Hope are illuminated by humor and lucidity, and by that other mysterious substance we call literature.
