Overview
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
Mrs. Dalloway by VIRGINIA WOOLF follows a day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway, a high-society woman married to a member of Parliament, in post-World War I England, as she prepares for a party that she is set to host that evening.
The novel travels back and forth in time, delving into the minds of its characters, exploring their emotional and psychological landscapes. We see Clarissa's reflections on her choice of husband over a passionate suitor and her current feelings of isolation and confinement within her social role. Simultaneously, the story of Septimus Warren Smith, a shell-shocked war veteran, unfolds as a poignant counterpoint to Clarissa’s internal contemplations.
Their narratives interlace, presenting themes of identity, memory, and disconnection in a rapidly changing world. Woolf's pioneering stream-of-consciousness technique paints these inner experiences with profound intimacy, challenging traditional narrative structures and illustrating the fluidity of time and the human psyche.
