  • Overview

    ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

«I could not see anything under the water, even if I opened my eyes: a thick gooey, black, cold barrier that, due to my desire to escape, felt like an oil soup in which my arms and legs made me move very slowly, even if I moved them with all my strength."

This novel is set around La Oculta, a farm hidden in the mountains of Colombia. Pilar, Eva, and Antonio Ángel are the last heirs of this land that has survived several generations in the family. In La Oculta they have spent the happiest moments of their lives, but they have also had to face the siege of violence and terror, restlessness, and an escape.

Through the three brothers, their loves, fears, desires, and hopes, and with a dazzling landscape as a backdrop, Héctor Abad Faciolince highlights the vicissitudes of a family and a town, as well as the exact moment when the paradise on which they built their realities and dreams is about to be lost.

An intimate and transgressive look at a thriving and traditionalist society, which confirms Héctor Abad as one of the great writers in Latin American literature today.
