The adventures of imaginary characters mix with the story of two candidates for immortality, Goethe and Bettina von Armin; the reflection on the birth of homo senti-mentalis in the history of Europe alternates with the Parisian adventures of the singular professor Avenarius, for whom today's world serves only as an object of play.
