Ronald Krueck and Mark Sexton opened their Chicago-based office after working together since 1980. In a city where the spirit and legacy of Mies van der Rohe live on, Krueck & Sexton has simultaneously followed in the modern master's footsteps -- impeccable attention to elegant structural details and commitment to creating pure forms -- while composing a complex and distinctive architectural vocabulary. Krueck's studies of and passion for twentieth-century art, combined with Sexton's thorough understanding of technology and seamless execution of complicated engineering details, make this firm's work exceptional in its beauty, functionality, and refinement. Seen in their designs for buildings, houses, galleries, office spaces, interiors, and furniture is a sublime and symbiotic relationship between rigid geometric spaces, streamlined shapes, and an authoritative use of a wide range of materials. Over fifteen projects are illustrated with spectacular photographs of the built work, meticulously detailed presentation and construction drawings, innovative sketches, and informative study models, covering the entire scope of their work. Comprehensively shown and discussed are such well-known projects as the Steel & Glass House (in Chicago), Rockledge (the Eastern Regional Center for Hewitt Associates), and Center West (a bank for Northern Trust of California).
