I arrived in Medellin looking for Adrian, and I met Nahum, Hernan Dario, Jonathan, Victor Manuel, Fernando, Juan Esteban, Ruben Dario, Wilinton, Douglas, Jose Daniel, Angel Antonio, Julio, and Fabio. In Barecelona, I’m Santiago, but here at the Jericho Lighthouse Foundation, I’m Kaliman, the hero who listens to true stories of wounded, mistreated young men who had been banished from the good life. You can’t erase the past, and picking yourself up is no easy feat. But the men at Faro are also Kalimans; they have left the streets, the drugs, and the scraping by behind to begin to look forward to a future of hope.

Llegué a Medellín buscando a Adrián y conocí a Nahum, a Hernán Darío, a Jonathan, a Víctor Manuel, a Fernando, a Juan Esteban, a Rubén Darío, a Wilinton, a Douglas, a José Daniel, a Ángel Antonio, a Julio y a Fabio. En Barcelona yo soy Santiago, pero aquí, en la Fundación Faro de Jericó, soy Kalimán, el héroe que escucha las historias reales de unos muchachos heridos, maltratados, desterrados de la buena vida. No se puede borrar lo vivido, y aprender a caminar de nuevo no es tarea fácil. Pero los pelaos de Faro también son Kalimanes, han abandonado la calle y las drogas y el malvivir para empezar a mirar hacia el futuro con esperanza.
