  • Overview

History of Philosophy in Relation to Theology

Alfonso Ropero guides us through more than two thousand years of fruitful dialogues, connecting the timelines concerning the past and discovering some future consequences of human thought, theology and other topics developed in this work.

It also condenses three elements that can challenge the current hegemony of irrationalism, nihilism, and individualism: philosophy, Christian thought and history.

"The present study has truth as its north". To that pilgrimage we are invited, a path that cannot be entered through any other door than that of humility. It is a work with a conciliatory and equanimous tone.

This work devotes much of its energy to explaining and breaking down the concepts of some of the most important philosophers and theologians in history, but it should not be thought of as a mere catalog of names or ideas; at the heart of this effort is the existential and philosophical meditation of the author himself, who seems to find in the history of philosophy an excuse to embark on a journey to his own questions and answers.

One of the great successes of this volume is the inclusion of textual quotations from the different authors treated. These literal fragments have the virtue of placing us in the cultural and historical world inhabited by their writers. This is key because "every philosophy, every philosophy, starts from a situation and is intelligible only from it.
