  • Overview

The novel unfolds between the spring and summer of 2014 in Donetsk, in eastern Ukraine, the epicenter of the armed conflict that followed the de facto declaration of independence by several government buildings. In this setting, Elfa, the unnamed heroine, loses her family, her home, and her job. From that moment on, she begins to piece her life back together, finds new allies, and discovers a new sense of purpose. Step by step, the reader witnesses her transformation, her metamorphosis from prey into hunter. The events described are not fictional: they stem from the author’s own experiences and from the people she met while working as a volunteer with the Ukrainian army.
