In the 1970s suburbs of England, eleven-yearold Beaven’s world was shattered when his father abandoned the family, leaving a wake of anger and resentment. With no space to grieve, his family moved on as if nothing had happened. Forty-five years later, the chance discovery of a stranger’s handwritten notes brought long-buried emotions to the surface. In response, working intuitively for the next four years, Beaven photographed the people and landscapes he encountered around his home in New York’s Hudson Valley. Gone. creates a bridge between two distant times and places, articulating the feelings he could not find the words for as a child.
