Mina and her younger sister, Yulia, have been dropped on a frozen wasteland to live with other Earthlings in a remote settlement. But soon people start turning up dead. Their game has begun. After leaping into a mysterious abyss to escape a diabolical cult leader, James floats in the void between worlds. As he endures testing by a trickster god, the band of survivors he left behind flees from the cult and into the hunting ground of an even greater threat.

Now James must choose whether to go to the rescue of the group that has come to see him as a leader and protector or rush to his family, who are in a position of unique danger themselves . . .
