  • Overview

Bestselling author and film producer Delia Ephron wrote this charming sewing how-to in 1974. Long out of print, the book is newly updated with stories from Ephron and retains the retro design aesthetic, wonderful illustrations, and practical sewing advice of the original

Originally published in 1974 under the title Gladrags, this extraordinary little sewing guide was created by Delia Ephron (then Brock) and her friend Lorrie Bodger to help readers reimagine their wardrobes. Comprehensive and charmingly illustrated, the original volume offered instructions for adding embellishments and making alterations that were 1970s hip—but are now vintage cool. The out-of-print book (which is almost impossible to find) is still prized by sewists for its clear instructions (for altering and upcycling sweaters, blouses, pants, skirts, jerseys, and accessories) and its very detailed and accurate illustrations, both of which have stood the test of time.

For this revised edition, Ephron has written a new introduction and added a dozen brief anecdotes to, as she notes, “make the book more fun and give it a bit of context.”
