Overview
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
Through an intimate and original approach, Tania Tagle shares with us her doubts and reflections on pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting, entwined with the exploration of concepts such as the Monstrous, the Miracle, and the Wonder.
Thus, we dialogue with her and some Roman thinkers, such as Titus Livius, among others, to trace where the idea of a monster was born and how was transformed to contrast with the transformation of a pregnant woman’s body; while in the second part, Tagle approaches the moment of giving birth, conceived as a miracle, tracing the genealogy of the term childbirth through Judaism, Greek myths, and even Saint Augustine. Finally, we reach the key moment of language acquisition and upbringing, with that surprise, that thauma, starts a conversation with Tales of Mileto, María Zambrano, and Socrates.
Germinal is an essay to accompanying the process of bringing a person into this world by understanding the anguish and beauty that this implies. A moving book that also invites us to think about how these processes are inserted into thought and culture and how we can transform them.
