Focused on Beauty

Karol Kállay was an extraordinary figure in Czechoslovak photography. This photojournalist, today internationally recognised, became involved in fashion photography in the 1950s, most notably working with Móda - textil but also outside the country with magazines such as Saison and Sibylle in Germany and Le Jardin des Modes in Paris. His best photos inject a documentary approach to staged photography, where he took advantage of his photojournalism experience. His courage, sense of invention, perseverance and desire to match the quality of the era´s global photographers enabled him to achieve success both in Czechoslovakia and around the world. Karol Kállay spent more than thirty years in fashion photography and can be considered the founder of this genre in Slovakia.
