Overview
One of the most popular illustrators of the Victorian period, Richard Doyle (1824 - 1883) created irresistible illustrations of fairies, elves, water sprites, and other enchanting denizens of fairyland. Maurice Sendak, one of the most celebrated illustrators of children's books in America today, has praised Doyle's work, saying he was "probably the best of them all."
For this coloring book, illustrator Marty Noble has meticulously adapted 16 of the English artist's most clever and fanciful works of art. Depicted are wood elves and other winged creatures at play, pixies and imps nestled in the leaves of a flowering plant, water sprites afloat on a lily pond, and other captivating scenes.
Printed on translucent paper, the lovely, full-page designs produce delightful stained glass effects when colored and placed against a window or other light source.
