Overview
Julia Blackburn narrates Parallel storylines in this book: the process of illness and death of her mother (a painter); her own investigation about the last days of Goya's life, which leads her to travel through Spain; and the result of these investigations. This novel brings together three books in one with different degrees of fictionalization that interact with each other. Thus, when reconstructing the last days of Goya, and according to what her mother is telling her, she does not hesitate to venture into what the Aragonese painter must have felt and thought. Therefore, in addition to a very useful reconstruction of the last days of Goya's life, with attention also to the political and social context (the war of independence), this essay ends up becoming an interesting reflection on decadence and death.
