El Decamerón. (Diez cuentos) (Spanish Edition)

Escrita entre 1349 y 1351, el Decamerón es una colección de cien cuentos que narran siete damas y tres jóvenes de igual condición que, para protegerse de la epidemia de peste que asolaba Florencia en 1348, se refugian en una villa de las afueras de la ciudad.  Allí, para entretenerse, se reúnen a contarse historias, a cantar y bailar. Cada día un rey o reina de la reunión impone un tema sobre el que cada uno de los compañeros relatará un cuento...  y esto será así cada día durante 10 días (de ahí el titulo griego de la obra), excepto el viernes y el sábado, dedicados a la oración. Con muy variados temas en cada relato, el Decamerón logró superar hasta tal punto el género de las colecciones de cuentos que le habían precedido que nada explica suficientemente la impresionante modernidad del libro y el enorme placer que produce su lectura. En esta edición Juan Varela propone una selección de los mejores cuentos en una nueva traducción.

Written between 1349 and 1351, the Decameron is a collection of one hundred stories told by seven ladies and three young men of the same condition who, to protect themselves from the plague that devastated Florence in 1348, take refuge in a villa on the outskirts of the city. Each day a king or queen of the meeting imposes a theme on which each of the companions will tell a story ... and this will be the case every day for 10 days (hence the Greek title of the work). With very varied themes in each story, the Decameron managed to overcome the genre of the collections of stories that had preceded it to such an extent that nothing sufficiently explains the impressive modernity of the book and the enormous pleasure that its reading produces. In this edition Juan Varela proposes a selection of the best stories in a new translation.
