Eastern Kentucky University: (1906-1956)

Located in Richmond, Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University has a distinguished record of 100 years of educational service to the commonwealth. Founded in 1906 as a normal school, Eastern evolved into a teachers college, then a state college, and finally a university. As EKU serves the Eastern Kentucky region, it is becoming an institution of national distinction, well known as a comprehensive public university dedicated to highquality instruction, service, and scholarship. This volume covers the first 50 years of a regional college that, at first, focused on educating teachers for the classroom, aided by the establishment of a model training school. The mission soon expanded to include programs such as business, home economics, music, and industrial arts.
