  • Overview

    ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Directo al corazón (Straight to the Heart) is the story of an inventor. Of a doctor who once thought he would become an engineer, but discovered his true calling in medicine.

It is also the life journey of a man who devoted himself with the same tenacity to research and to finding explanations for everything around him. Along that long path, he discovered and developed new cardiological procedures, and never stopped until death surprised him—nearly at the age of 90.

In February 1960, in Montevideo, he had successfully implanted the first pacemaker, saving a young woman from death. Without knowing it, he had marked a milestone in global cardiology. National and international recognition would come much later.

Directo al corazón is a portrait of a country—Uruguay in the mid-20th century, where education offered opportunities to all who had talent and the desire to improve themselves.

Directo al corazón is the fictionalized biography of Dr. Orestes Fiandra, written by Diego Fischer.
