Overview
Der kaiserliche Vogt Volkmar gründete im 12. Jahrhundert ein Nonnenkloster außerhalb der mittelalterlichen Stadtbefestigung von Goslar. Dazu gehörte auch die Stiftskirche „St. Maria in horto“ (Heilige Maria im Rosengarten), heute Neuwerkkirche genannt. Durch einen Torbogen, der einst zu einer der Goslarer Stadtmauern gehörte, gelangt man auf das Gelände der Neuwerkkirche. Da die Kirche im Mittelalter am Rande Goslars lag, ist sie dadurch als einzige von den Stadtbränden verschont und als romanisches Baudenkmal erhalten geblieben.
