Overview
Auf den Fundamenten des mittelalterlichen Vorgängerbaus wurde die St. Petri Kirche nach der Zerstörung im Großen Brand der Hamburger Innenstadt 1842 im neugotischen Stil wieder errichtet. Der Neubau ist durch den Eindruck großer Einheitlichkeit geprägt, der durch eine streng gegliederte Fassade und die Mauerung aus glattem, dunklen Backstein entsteht. Die Innenausstattung stammt größtenteils aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, aus dem Mittelalter erhalten sind aber unter anderem eine Sandstein-Madonna und die Holzfigur des ersten Hamburger Bischofs Ansgar von Bernt Notke.
