  • Overview

    ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A volume with all of Charles Dickens’ Christmas tales, including the famous “Christmas Carol.”

    Translated by Nuria Salinas.

Introduction by Michael Slater, London University professor.

It has been said that Charles Dickens invented Christmas as we know it, and maybe no other writer has evoked the all-at-once joyous and elegiac spirit of the season so masterfully. Inspired in the 1852 English edition, this volume features the famous “Christmas Carol” and another four stories set around Christmas time: “The Chimes,” “The Cricket on the Hearth,” “The Battle of Life,” and “The Haunted Man.” All of them highlight the main themes in Dickens universe: charity, childhood, folktales, social inequality, dreams, and personal redemption.

In addition to Nuria Salinas’ careful translation, this edition includes Michael Slater’s introduction, professor emeritus of Victorian literature at Birkbeck College, University of London, and one of the greatest world experts in the life and works of the English author. With his notes, the beauty of this essential work of fiction is accompanied by detailed knowledge of an entire era.
