  • Overview

    ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

“It is not known those stories are called differently outside the book, something that, in hushed tones and behind flushed cheeks and snickers, people call desire.”

Cruel Sky is a generational novel about three women’s discovery of desire. As an initiation voyage to Mar, the daughter, her yearning to see the ocean will become a rallying point between passion and the clarity of a sensuous awakening. With a mix of guilt and pleasure, Mar’s days will go by putting her alleged villain name to the test, a destiny she will try to break away from by Alejo’s side, a younger man that will make her face her deepest fears.

On the other hand, Gloria, the mother, will transgress the meaning of marriage, seeking to spend time with her husband and her best friend. And it will be through memories and the recreation of violent episodes in the years following the Mexican Revolution that Abuela Belén will show the strength of a woman who knows how to love herself and does not need a man to be fulfilled.

Three women, three moments in time, one blood, in which Maritza M. Buendía, in her singular style, makes us question and reframe the idea of desire and the body in gusts of wind flowing over a sky that is ultimately cruel.
