Charles Caryl Coleman was an American artist who studied in Paris before returning home to participate in the American Civil War. He later returned to Europe and it was whilst in Italy that he developed a style of large-scale still lifes, of which Apple Blossoms is an example. It shows his ability to mix elements from different styles and cultures.
