British Witchcraft (The Suppression and Re-emergence of the Old Religion)

British Witchcraft presents the life’s work of Ralph Harvey, former head of The Order of Artemis, an international network encompassing more than two hundred Wiccan covens devoted to the practice of the Old Religion. Drawing upon decades of research, oral history, and direct experience within traditional witchcraft communities, Harvey explores the origins of British witchcraft, its persecution through the centuries, and its survival into the modern era. Particular attention is given to Sussex, long regarded as one of England’s final strongholds of traditional witchcraft, and among the first regions to witness its public re-emergence following the repeal of the Witchcraft Act in 1951. British Witchcraft offers a rare opportunity to look into the customs, beliefs, and practices of the old style witches, preserving the roots of the Old Religion as it was and as it continues to exist today.
