  • Overview

A detailed dive into our healthcare system and how one man, against all odds, became a top-rated doctor.

Many years before becoming appointed by President Donald Trump to the president's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, Stephen Soloway was a graduate contemplating dental school. From New York City, Dr. Soloway completed his undergraduate studies at SUNY Stony Brook. It is there he was told by his medical adviser that he could be a dentist, a podiatrist, or a chiropractor, but not a doctor. Fortunately for the world of medicine, a newspaper ad for the American University School of the Caribbean became the start of his journey.

In this inspirational biography, Dr. Soloway walks us through his gripping journey—thousands of miles away from home, completely alone, believing he did not have the grade point average to become a doctor, putting all those fears aside and becoming a man on a mission. Through countless hours of hands-on experience, from delivering twins to dealing with gunshot wounds to simple respiratory problems, nothing was as interesting and as alarming to Dr. Soloway as rheumatology.

As a leader in his field, he sits on numerous boards and panels in the pharmacology industry along with national advisory panels for major companies involved in arthritis or osteoporosis research. He is known within the medical community as a medical detective and will proudly announce, "If I can't fix you, I will get someone that can." It is through rheumatology that he became aware of the medical crisis facing the US, and learned to answer: What is wrong with our current system? How did it break down? How can we fix it?

In Bad Medicine, Dr. Stephen Soloway brings to light issues within our medical system, but most importantly, he offers a story of  passion, hard work, perseverance, and a constant pursuit of excellence.
