Overview
ANTIGONE. VELOCITY. SALT. shatters the myth of Antigone, rebuilding and remixing it into a spiritual inquiry into Palestinian grief and mourning as sites of both settler-colonial violence and indigenous resistance.
Interweaving scripts for an impossible performance, shards of surrealist mythmaking, and dreams of individual and collective resistance, the book opens with the practice—enshrined into Israeli law—of withholding the bodies of murdered Palestinians from their families. Within Palestinian strategies of resistance, Fargo Nissim Tbakhi locates a slippery, collective Antigone—the tragic Greek mythological figure who sacrifices her life to give her brother a proper burial.
Through a fragmented retelling, ANTIGONE. VELOCITY. SALT. elucidates a political orientation to grieving in the face of power. A non-linear act of burial and a plea for wholeness, ANTIGONE. VELOCITY. SALT. is a journey towards repair, in direct and sustained opposition to settler-colonial cruelty.
